Artist Statement
I usually search for inspiration in my everyday life. I like to combine observation and imagination into my art. Combining the mundane with the unusual. I tend to rely on my observation skills to come up with ideas to explore, like an interesting pattern or the way the light peaks through the leaves of a tree. I mostly draw portraits because I enjoy capturing different emotions through facial expressions and all their little facets. Then I transform what I observe by adding different elements that the image evokes for me, like the way freckles trace constellations across someone's cheeks.

I will be exploring the theme of identity through painting. For me, art is a way to express myself and it is an important part of who I am. I believe that portraits are a great way to express human identity. My project is a painting that explores an artist's identity, specifically the way they offer the audience a glimpse into their mind and the way they see the world through their art. I will be using acrylic paint on a canvas board. To represent the concepts of reality and imagination clashing, I will also add surrealist imagery in the painting.
